The modern Yakut alphabet comprises 40 letters, including 33 from the Russian alphabet and 2 letter combinations: "дь" and "нь", as well as 5 special characters: ү, ө, һ, ҥ, ҕ. These special letters reflect the phonetic nuances of the Yakut (Sakha) language. Presently, the standard iOS keyboard does not cater to the Yakut language layout, leading Yakut speakers to resort to using Russian letters for texting in Yakut, consequently distorting the language's integrity and potentially impacting it adversely in the long run.

SakhaKey, a novel keyboard designed specifically for the Yakut (Sakha) language, aims to address this issue of correct language usage.

SakhaKey features two distinct modes: extended and basic. In the extended mode, the Yakut letters Ү, Ө, Һ, Ҥ, Ҕ are elegantly displayed in a dedicated row above the Russian keyboard layout. Furthermore, this row incorporates the primary punctuation marks for user convenience. Conversely, in the basic mode, the Yakut letters are concealed behind their corresponding Russian counterparts: Ү behind У, Ө behind О, Һ behind С, Ҥ behind Н, and Ҕ behind Г and Х. Accessing a Yakut letter in the basic mode is as simple as pressing and holding the respective Russian key.

SakhaKey supports predictive text functionality in both Russian and Yakut languages. Users have the flexibility to enrich the keyboard dictionary with new words by a straightforward tap on the typed words. This innovative feature contributes to crafting a personalized dictionary that enhances text messaging efficiency. Newly added words are seamlessly suggested in the predictive text bar above the keyboard interface.
